From September 2025, I am Lecturer (Assistant Professor) of Internaitonal Relations at SOAS University of London.
I research the modern international society, seeking to find patterns of continuity and discontinuity across different scales to understand how the global hangs together and polities relate to each other. That is my overarching research aim. I do so through a thematic interest in diplomacy, identity, conceptual history, historical international relations, a theoretical orientation in International Relations Theory and Social Theory, and regional specialization in the Middle East and Iran. My monograph work focuses on the transformation of the international society from the 16th century, and what Iran’s idea of Europe since then until 2015 tell us about the society itself and also Iran’s global status. I received my BA in Politics & Law from the University of Essex, MSc and PhD in International Relations from London School of Economics and Political Science, where I also taught.
From 2022 to 2024, I was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow University of Oslo, investigating conceptual history of international order.
I also engage with the history of international society to grapple with the role of language and religion. I am also one of the co-convenors of ‘Historical International‘ that gathers researchers interested in historically grounded research.
These research interests also shape my pedagogy and teaching of introduction to International Relations, the Global Politics of the Middle East, and International Political Thought.
I have been one of the deputy editors of Millennium (Vol 47), and established and organised LSE International Relations Colloquium (2015-2018).
